It’s been an exciting 3 weeks since I kicked off my Lowepro-Catherine Hall Studios Self-Portrait Contest. Partnering with Lowepro, I wanted to find the most inspired photographic interpretation of your likeness and character. Your response to the contest has far exceeded my expectations. I’ve had a ball tracking your entries in and like many of you, I can’t wait to see who wins next week.
There are so many phenomenal entries and it seems unfair to award only 1 prize. Therefore, two other entries will receive honorable mentions and a Lowepro Slingshot 100 AW each. I will personally select two exceptional self-portraits based on their creativity, visual appeal and effectiveness in conveying the theme. The contest closed for entries yesterday, on July 5, but voting is open until July 10. Don’t forget to vote for your favorites!
In the mean time, enjoy this inspiration board of some of my personal favorites!

As an aspiring photographer, one of the most important things you can do is to get your work out there. And there’s no better way to gain exposure than to join photography contests. It can be really difficult to keep track of the hundreds of contests running simultaneously at any time. I was searching for photography contest directories to promote my Lowepro-CHS Self Portrait Photo Contest – and I thought it would be a great idea to share this list with you. Check it out and mark your favorite contests on the calendar.
Oh, and voting is open for my Photo Contest on Facebook – don’t forget to submit your self-portrait if you haven’t already ☺
Photo Contest Information
This website is my go-to photo directory because of its comprehensive listings of photography contests out there. It has a section showing contests that are ending soon and another listing photo contest results. If you are looking to submit your contest, Photo Contest Information also has an amazingly quick response time to requests.
Current Photo Contests
Another of my favorites, Current Photo Contests lists vital information about contests both Stateside and worldwide. The cool tabs on the top right hand corner show you the number of active contests as well as contests with approaching deadlines. To enter your own contest, simply submit details via email to info@photocompete.com. Kudos for its quick response time :)
The Photo Contest
This website has an extremely easy to navigate and well-organized interface. Contests are organized into yearly, monthly and quarterly categories, which makes it easy for you to prepare submissions according to deadlines and frequency of the contests. Have a contest? Submit for consideration via mail@thephotocontest.info.
Photography Competitions Network
Photography Competitions Network is probably the most professionally managed of all the listed photo contest directories. It has a team of researchers to look for competitions and contests and routinely work with big-name organizers. It has a user-friendly interface and contests span worldwide and are organized in terms of regions. The only downside? It is slow to respond to contest submissions and features paid advertisers most prominently.
Photolinks
Strictly saying, Photolinks is not a photo contest directory, but a congregation of photography-related directories. It has a section listing photo contests and photo contest websites – and contest listing is free if you are an amateur.
Proof Positive
Proof Positive lists both major and minor contests on its site. Spanning worldwide listings, the photo contest directory has comprehensive listings for both amateur and professional photographers. If you are submitting your contest, your contest has to have a deadline that takes place within 6 months of submission.

Thank you for taking part in my Datacolor, Kubota Image Tools and Triple Scoop Music giveaways. I really enjoyed your participation – and wish to take it up a notch! This time round, I’m interested to see your self-portraits – it can be a photograph taken with your mobile phone or your good ol’ camera.
When I interviewed Joyce Tenneson for my Guest Friday feature, I was really intrigued with how her personal life has been such an integral force in her work. She mentioned how she started doing self-portraits when she was in her 20s and her portraiture work always seemed to me to reflect her personal complexities, transposed onto somebody else.
I’m partnering with Lowepro to find the most inspired expression of self-portraiture. We are looking for your photographic interpretation of your likeness and character.
The Assignment:
Post your self-portrait on my Facebook Fan Page Photo Contest tab. You can submit as many photos as you like before July 5. Voting starts June 27 – you and everyone else can vote for your favorite entries until July 10. The qualifying entry with the most votes wins!
The Prize:
The winner gets a Lowepro ProRunner x450 AW, an urban-inspired DSLR rolling backpack designed for digital gear and sized for most international travel. It includes Lowepro’s padded and protective, adjustable divider system and inventive features to help you transport a camera, laptop, accessories and personal items with ease.
Plus, the winning photo will be published on my blog, Twitter and Facebook fan page!
We are excited to be working with Lowepro to give the ProRunner x450 AW away. Look out for a new contest on July 11, 2011. Thanks for your support.

Congratulations to Tim Marman, the winner of our last contest. It’s time for a new contest and I’m super excited to tell you about our next prize. I am giving away a Kubota Image Tools Viva La Vintage and Pow Wow! Combo Pak ($179), which includes 25 time-warping vintage enhancements and 26 popping fresh enhancements. I’m really excited because Kubota’s time-saving Photoshop™ plug-ins and Lightroom™ presets have not only improved my workflow and the quality of my images, they have also added fun to the process. Without doing a lot of work, you can see a lot of different effects. You can also easily customize the presets. The interface is extremely intuitive and there is practically no learning curve. I used my favorite preset, Time Machine, for the above image.
