PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn is one of my favorite venues to shoot and it was a treat to photograph Liisa and Ethan’s wedding here. Liisa, whose father is English and mom is Finnish, looks like a film star of yore and Ethan a dashing gentleman – yet, don’t judge a book by its cover. The outwardly sophisticated pair are also outdoor enthusiasts who walk on the wild side. They met in San Francisco after Ethan spent a year sailing professionally. With a mutual passion for skiing, sailing and training for road-bike races, it comes as no surprise that Liisa and Ethan took the plunge and decided to craft an adventure-filled life together.
While most brides would be nervous preparing for the big day, Liisa spent the day before the wedding in her ski clothes and drinking beer with friends. Yes, she’s cool like that. On the actual day, however, the picture-perfect couple were well-composed and graceful in an elegant ceremony, thanks to coordinator Stephanie Anderson of One Fine Day. Their guests, all beautifully clad in gorgeous gowns and tuxedos, made you feel like you stepped into an old movie set – where everyone had courtly demeanor and perfectly coiffed hair.
Not only was engage!11 such a fun gathering of luxury wedding vendors, it was also a venue of bridal inspirations – filled with gorgeous details. Of course, we didn’t expect anything less from the most inspired artists in the industry. Enjoy my bridal inspiration boards of the exquisite designs from San Diego :)

Every couple has a unique story of how they met – and Sarah and Ryan’s was a chance encounter outside a concert venue in Washington, D.C. A beer led to a date and then a romantic engagement in Charlotteville, V.A., and the icing on the wedding cake was literally a gorgeous Lake Tahoe Wedding. Ryan’s from the East Coast and Sarah’s from the West Coast, so the cross-country wedding was a challenge to plan. Fortunately, the savvy young couple sought the help of Merrily Rocco and Christen Horner of Merrily Wed – and I am so fortunate to be a part of Sarah and Ryan’s special day. Weddings can be a long day of non-stop preparation and activities; however, I love being able to capture the whole spectrum of colors, emotions, portraits – and the moments with Sarah and Ryan just enjoying each other’s company are my favorites.
A tip from Sarah for brides-to-be: “Remember to take that time with your husband to soak up every detail and share the happiness of it all.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Here’s why I love engagement sessions: couples are usually so overwhelmed with the tight wedding day schedule – so there’s a limited amount of time a photographer gets to actually interact with his/her subjects. At engagement sessions, however, the atmosphere is much more relaxed because the bride and groom are alone and have time to enjoy each other. Basically, just to have fun.
Currently living in Texas, Gaby and Ryan will have their destination wedding out here in San Francisco this Fall. It was so fun for me to photograph them and explore the attractions in the City through their fresh eyes. You know how people say that you just know it when you are in love? Gaby and Ryan are the kind of couple every couple wish they could be. The rapport between them was just magnetic – I didn’t even have to pose them. They have such great style and are adventurous, dodging trains and stopping traffic to steal a kiss. Gaby and Ryan were just instantly photogenic.
My only tip: don’t make out with a scruffie! Gaby’s face was raw after kissing Ryan.
